The three main installation methods each have distinct strengths, and the right choice depends on your pavement type, traffic load, project timeline, and whether you're looking for a permanent or temporary solution.

Here's a practical breakdown to help you make the right call before you order.


Saw-Cut Loops

Saw-cut loops are the industry standard for permanent pavement installations. A diamond blade saw cuts a slot into the asphalt or concrete surface, the loop is laid in, and the slot is sealed with a professional-grade loop sealant.

Best for:

  • Traffic signal detection
  • Toll and highway applications
  • Permanent parking and access control gates
  • Any site with established asphalt or concrete pavement

Pros:

  • Most reliable long-term performance — 10+ year service life when properly installed and sealed

Direct Burial Loops

Direct burial loops are installed before the final pavement layer is laid — the loop wire is placed in the binder layer (sand or crusher stone) and then paved over. This method is ideal when you're working on new construction or a pavement overlay project.

Best for:

  • New road construction and pavement overlays
  • Sites where saw-cutting is not feasible or permitted
